Football (or soccer for those who grew up in the US) is often touted as the most popular sport in the
world. It is said to transcend boundaries and cultures, thus creating a true
feeling of solidarity for any and all involved in ‘the beautiful game.’
Pelada,
meaning ‘pick-up game’ in Brazil, is a movie that explores the depths of this
universal love and admiration to the kicking of a ball. This movie depicts that
whether young or old, rich or poor, fit or fat, Kenyan or Iranian, Jewish or Muslim,
all can appreciate the ‘sport’ for its many offerings - dreams, respite from the
world, an afternoon with friends, and of course the sheer joy that comes from
doing that thing you love.
No matter if you are a fan of football or not, this movie
will force you to rethink transforming the dream of your life into the joy of
your life.
